DADA Inspired Propaganda against the Fast Fashion Industry
For this project, each individual in the class was assigned 2 prompts to create a Typographic Protest Poster using a specific art/ cultural movement as well as a cause/issue. The art movement I was assigned was DADA and the enviromental cause I picked was concerning fast fashion. Believe it or not, Fast Fashion is what contributes to about 30% of Global Warming, clothes are made to be thrown away, it's an endless cycle of waste, chemicals and fabric. More big name fashion brands need to start focusing on sustainability rather than mass production. We unfortunately know that shift in fashion won't be taking place for a while, but in the meantime the best we can do as people is to speak up and stand up! I am very passionate about fashion whthere it is streetwear or runway ready, yet I also love our enviorment and hate to see that some of the reason as to why the earth is goign to wast is over a garmet.
For this poster in particular I mostly used Adobe Illustrator to create this but I did use a little bit of Adobe express to make some clean edits on my picture.
My inspiration for this piece was that I feel as if not a lot of people know much about fast fashion let alone what detrimental repercussions it has on this Earth, I see it as majority taking the fast fashion contribution of global warming as a game. I specifically chose the game Shoots and Ladders because I remember playing it as a kid was never ending, just like the cycle of unsustainable fashion.
